New Cat Lai Bridge Project Linking Saigon-Dong Nai Recently Approved

Once finished, Cat Lai Bridge will replace the Cat Lai Ferry.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc recently approved a proposal to build Cat Lai Bridge, which will connect Saigon's District 2 and Nhon Trach District in Dong Nai Province, Tuoi Tre reports. The People’s Committee of Dong Nai will be the main government agency to oversee the project.

The total cost of the project is VND7 trillion (US$310 million). Construction is expected to start in 2020. According to the Dong Nai People’s Committee request, the project will be divided into three parts.

The newspaper adds that the first section of the bridge, which will span 623 meters in Saigon, will be funded through a build-transfer contract and overseen by the HCMC People’s Committee. The construction of the bridge’s entry road located in Dong Nai Province, meanwhile, will span 263 meters and be supervised by the Dong Nai People’s Committee under a similar type of partnership.

The construction of the bridge’s main span will be funded through a build-transfer-operate contract.
